NON day

I took a picture of NON and her daddy today that I can show you, since there are no faces. It was an accident but I immediately thought of you guys. Heh. Isn't it cute?! She is one year old today!

So this morning I was rudely awakened by a telemarker. ON SUNDAY. Man that chaps my ass so bad. I wondered what was doing that, actually. Now I know. (Hee!)

Anyway, so I got up and went to church then on the way home went to my brother's house. The party was at 1:00 and there was no sense driving all the way home and all the way back when they are right in the middle. So I just went early and helped set up. NON had just gotten up from a very short nap and was almost but not quite grouchy. Very quiet and looking around in wonderment at all the people. (But when her cousins started coming in she lit up like a beacon and couldn’t crawl over to play with them fast enough.) All my aunts and uncles came, except Aunt E who is afraid to go out in the ice and snow when she can barely walk. She misses a lot of events because of that and I kind of feel sorry for her. But also not, because she could get out if she really wanted to. My uncle would have taken her, he took Aunt B.

The party was nice, I stayed until around 4 pm when all the rest of my relatives left. The house was full of screaming children from Bruce's wife's family by that time and I can't take too much of that when they are kids I don't even know. And, I ask you, what idiot ever came up with the idea of a 'smash cake'?! Why buy an entire small cake for your baby to destroy? It's not 'cute' in any way shape or form. Also, what a waste of money! Whatever happened to giving the child a small piece of the birthday cake?? Of course, I do not think pictures of babies learning to feed themselves, with food all over their heads, is cute either. I know it's natural and a necessary part of learning, but it is NOT cute and does not need pictures taken and passed around the world. Gag!

So anyway I got home a little after 4. I hauled up some wood, fed the dog, and wrote a short email to Y. I was exhausted. I had only gotten about 6 hours sleep last night and 5 the night before. So I thought I would just go lay on the couch and read for a bit. I read about two sentences and then passed out cold. I woke up at 6:30 and was totally confused for several minutes. I was on the couch and it was dark. I thought it was 0630 in the morning and I must have gotten out of bed in the night and laid on the couch. But I couldn't remember why I would do that. I didn’t think I was sick. (Sometimes I do that if I am sick to my stomach.) Then I noticed the fish tank light was on and I thought I must have fallen asleep on the couch reading and slept all night. But then I couldn't figure out why the lamp wasn't also on if that was the case. So I went back to thinking I had gotten out of bed and onto the couch. Then I noticed that I had clothes on, and I never go to bed with clothes on. It was only then that I started to realize it was maybe only 6:30 pm and I had only been asleep a couple hours. I still wasn't sure though and I had to get up and walk around and think about it. That was when I decided it MUST be PM because if it was 0630 it would have been getting light out. Satisfied with my conclusion, I went BACK to sleep on the couch for another hour. Ha! I must have really been tired. And of course now I probably won't be able to sleep at all tonight.

But with that, I leave you to go do my knee exercises and stretch. Cheerio!

The smash cake thing doesn't bug me as much as the fact that most places used colored icing on it. That shit does not come out of clothes and burns when it gets into the eyeballs. At least that is what happened with kid #2 and kid #3.

Remind me what NON stands for? Non-orbital niece? Nicely obscure niece? Newly operable niece?

(Hey, I hope I got the niece part!)

Newly operable niece! Hee!

It's Number One Niece, actually. Since she is my first such item. I'd just call her by her name but it is unique enough that I can't. The next baby is a boy so he will be Number One Nephew but I will need something different so we can tell them apart when I go by the intials. Suggestions? I could just call them 'niece' and 'nephew', but there are supposed to be more on down the line so that doesn't work either. I'm sure I will be discussing this again closer to his due date, which is close to my birthday. Wee!
